Casino: 100% up to 35,000 KES
Betting: 100% up to 15,000 KES

22bet Kenya is a huge player in the iGaming industry with online casino, betting and live casino available. Their main brand does not have the best reputation with numerous complaints across review sites. Askgamblers recently removed 22bet from their blacklist listings after a huge campaign to clear their name. They now offer Kenyans a platform under the brand 22bet Kenya which we have decided to review to establish whether they’re suitable for the African market or not.

  • Kiswahili language
  • Huge library of games
  • Massive variety of banking options
  • Live Chat does not work
  • No responsible gaming tools
  • Limited or incomplete information on website

22bet Kenya is a licensed iGaming platform offered by the goliath brand 22bet. They obtained a license from the BCLB (Kenyan Betting Control and Licensing Board) in 2019. As a result, Kenyans now have another international betting brand to welcome among the local brands.

The main brand has been tarnished by a lot of bad press due to unresolved complaints and unfair treatment of players. With numerous complaints and negative reviews on Trustpilot and Askgamblers they are obviously on the naughty list. But as a Kenyan license holder they must abide by the rules and requirements set out by the Kenyan government.

gamblers.africa’s job is to make sure that 22bet Kenya is living up to the standards of a fair and trusted online casino and betting site. After a few weeks of testing the product offering and interacting with the support team we have reached a conclusion.

The aim is to provide more transparent and customer-orientated services on the Kenyan market.

22bet Kenya’s website is pretty much up to par like other international online casinos and betting sites. The layout is easy to understand and navigate. Much like other operators, they’re using their signature dark green colour throughout the product to maintain a nice brand image.

The website features a carousel lobby in the middle of the website. There you will find promotions, announcements and other featured content 22bet considers front page worthy. Furthermore, you will see the welcome bonus in the carousel. Which is a 100% bonus up to 15,000 KES for Sports players, and a hefty 100% bonus up to 35,000 KES for online casino players. The header menu hosts the different products. Such as Sports, Live Casino, Casino and Esports along with Bonuses and Payments.

As I was navigating the website I noticed the language options in the top right corner. I was positively surprised to find Kiswahili as a language that the product supports. While I noticed a few grammar mistakes and unnatural content, it is still a huge help to those whose English might not be adequate.

All in all, a good experience so far with the product and user journey. As far as first impressions goes, it has been positive so far. 22bet Kenya might actually have a great product for Kenyans.

22bet Kenya’s registration process is a quick and painless one. In order to register an account with 22bet all you need to do is the following:

  • Click on USAJILI/REGISTRATION in the top right corner
  • Enter your Kenyan mobile number and click on Tuma SMS/Send SMS
  • Fill in the received OTP in the field Nambari ya uthibitishaji/Confirmation Code
  • Choose between the currencies KES, CDF, TZS UGX
  • Enter a password in the field Nenosiri/Password

After completing the above steps your 22bet Kenya account is registered and ready.

An alternative way to register is by SMS. Just send JOIN to 29525 to play using SMS. Although this may be an easy way to register, you will miss out on loads of features from the mobile and web product.

The key focus area for gamblers.africa is whether an operator offer any responsible gambling restrictions. On the surface it seems as if 22bet Kenya offers limits and account closures by contacting support. My experience, unfortunately, would prove the opposite of that.

There is very little information about responsible gambling on the 22bet Kenya website so I assumed responsible gaming tools are only available through chat. I tried initiating a Live Chat in the bottom right corner of the website several times, but nothing happened. My only other option was to send an email and expect a reply within 24 hours which I found completely unacceptable.

My instinct told me to go to the main brand website, 22bet.com. There the Live Chat feature was working and I was connected to the support agent Wolfgang, then transferred to Stacy and finally then transferred to James. All this happened without any correspondance to me, I didn’t feel valued as a customer at all.

My bad experience was about to get a whole lot worse. As I finally got an answer on my questions relating to responsible gaming, I was advised that they don’t offer any deposit limits, session limits or account closures via chat. Should I wish to close my account I have to send an email to a specific email address along with a bunch of documents. As a result, I was extremely unhappy.

This was very unfortunate as the rest of my product experience was very good, but the flaws are to great to be uplifted now.

I usually don’t go into to much details on the banking aspects of a product, but I figured 22bet Kenya deserved some points for their payments solutions.

22bet Kenya offers deposits and withdrawals with both Airtel and M-PESA (PayBill number: 895599), which basically suits everyone outside using credit and debit cards.

Other than those, they also offer loads of eWallets like Skrill and Neteller, as well as cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and more.

The online casino was an absolute blast, with more than 100 software providers you have hundreds if not thousands of games to choose from. All the latest releases from Microgaming, NetEnt, Play’N Go, Pragmatic Play, and what ever software provider you can think of, was there. The huge library of games made me even think of how hard it must be to manage the website and partnerships with these providers.

Their Live Casino library is also filled with software different software providers like Evolution Gaming, Ezugi and Fazi among others. And as I continue down the rabbit holes of endless games I can’t get over how upset I am over the lack of responsible gaming tools. I keep thinking what an amazing product this would be if only… if only they would fix their responsible gaming part. But back to what I was saying, in the Live Casino you will find live games such as:

  • Roulette
  • Blackjack
  • Baccarat
  • Spin the wheel
  • Wheel of Wishes
  • And more.

22bet Kenya’s sports betting product was also quite a pleasure to explore. You will have access to all the juicy features like:

  • In-play betting
  • Cashouts

While I did not manage to find anything in the sportsbook to completely blow me away, it was still a pretty solid product.

As a licensed Kenyan operator, there is a 20% tax fee that needs to be paid on winnings. This is nicely displayed in the bet slip. The total calculation of potential winnings will exclude the tax of 20% which 22bet pays on your behalf.

Lastly, you will be glad to hear that you can basically bet on anything between the earth and moon. If you can think of a game, 22bet Kenya will offer odds for it.

22bet Kenya offers two great welcome offers for players in Kenya, one for sports players and one for casino players. While the casino welcome bonus might seem better as it has a higher value, it comes with stricter terms. I want to give you my best advise to become a smart player; always read the bonus terms.

The casino bonus available for new players at 22bet Kenya is a 100% bonus up to 35,000 KES. The bonus will be added to your account straight after your deposit.

The wagering requirement for the casino bonus is 50x, remember that different games count differently towards the wagering requriement.

To read the full terms of the online casino welcome bonus, go to 22bet’s bonus terms page.

If you rather take part of the sports bonus, simply claim the sports offer of 100% bonus up to 15,000 KES. This bonus is also added to your balance upon completing your first deposit at 22bet Kenya.

This sports bonus comes with a lower wagering requirement of 5x, as long as you play on accumulators with a minimum of 3 selections of 1.40 odds or higher.

This is the part where I feel like just ending my relationship with 22bet Kenya right now. In this day and age, the most important aspect of an online casino or sports betting site is Player Protection. You protect your players by offering them assistance via live chat or other channels. You protect your players by offering them responsible gaming tools like deposit limits, time-outs and self exclusions.

Unfortunately, 22bet Kenya did not have any of the aforementioned. However, the blame can not be solely put on 22bet. The reason I am saying this, is that the Kenyan Gambling Board should have this as a priority. The gambling authority should set clear rules and expectations on operators to offer their players responsible gambling tools. Failing to do this, will lead to an unfair and dangerous environment for the consumer.

While you can request to close your account by sending an email to a specific email address, it’s too much of a process. This will discourage a lot of players who are in need of setting restrictions on accounts.

As a result, 22bet Kenya is not living up to our requirements for an operator that puts in the effort and protects its consumers.

What started out as an adventure of excitement quickly turned into an overcooked piece of steak. Even though I did not have high hopes due to the reputation of 22bet, I was still disappointed.

If you would put responsible gaming aside, the product is packed with all the features you could wish for. It is a gaming hub of huge proportions. Sports, slots, live casino, table games, esports, everything you can think of, in the same product.

Along with all those product enhancements comes Kiswahili as a language and M-Pesa and Airtel as deposit and withdrawal options. There is not much more you could wish for… Except for RG tools.

This time I would like to preach to the operator, 22bet Kenya, instead of you as a player: you are inches away from being a superior operator in this industry, don’t fall short on responsibility.

The 22bet Kenya platform offers players in Kenya local methods for convenient deposits. If you don’t want use Visa or MasterCard, make use of Airtel and M-Pesa.

If you are making a deposit with M-Pesa on 22bet, you can pay to PayBill: 895599

22bet offers players residing in Kenya to play on their licensed platform 22bet.co.ke. This product is regulated by the Kenyan government (BCLB).
