Nigerian Footballer Yakubu Ayegbeni has just signed on as a brand ambassador for casino game and betting operator Interwetten. The deal should be mutually beneficial, and reaffirms Interwetten’s commitment to the Nigerian market.

The partnership has been hailed as the largest official ambassador contract that Interwetten has ever entered into, making it a first for the operator. Since moving into Nigeria earlier in 2020, following approval and licensing from the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Interwetten has repeatedly asserted its desire to serve the country’s gamblers well and tap into its huge economic potential.
Yakubu’s National Hero Status
By inking a deal with the athlete often known simply as Yakubu or affectionately by his nickname The Yak, who is regarded as something of a national hero, the betting company is setting down roots in the country in a very visible and demonstrable way.
Over his illustrious career The Yak not only served as the striker and forward for the national Nigerian team, but also for the English Premier League clubs of Everton, Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough.
He is the third-highest African goal scorer in the Premier League’s history, having scored 96 time over the course of 252 games. Now, he’ll be integrated into all Interwetten’s Nigerian market advertising material.
Both Parties are Pleased
Yakubu and Interwetten have expressed satisfaction with their new deal, and anticipate it being highly mutually beneficial. The Footballer explained that he always prioritised the chemistry between himself and the brands he chooses to work with, and said his compatibility with the betting operator was “immediately obvious” following their initial talks.
Interwetten has been a reliable sports partner for years, The Yak continued, and he expects working with them to be very exciting. In addition to online and print advertisement across the country, Yakubu will make special appearances and participate in a weekly Yakubu Tip” feature on social media.
Interwetten spokesperson Dominik Beier indicated that his employer is also happy with the partnership. Nigeria’s passion for Football is enormous, he went on, and as such Yakubu has the status of an idol. With this in mind, he concluded, the sport star was an obvious choice for official ambassador.
Beier also said that Interwetten is only at the start of what they hope will be “a long journey in Nigeria”. Clearly, they feel that recruiting Yakubu will help them get off on the right foot. Their charity and local social projects, which will also involve The Yak, should further increase the country’s goodwill towards them.
I’ve been experiencing difficulty since I mistakenly open this betting site. I won more than #20,000 for a start but yet my money hasn’t been given to me.
