The federal government of Nigeria recently launched National Lottery Nigeria (NLN). This is a major breakthrough for players, betting operators in Nigeria and the general public. The NLN was purposefully established to give a state-owned dimension to lottery gaming and boost the country’s economy. To this end, many Nigerians now stand a chance to win mind-blowing prizes from this initiative. Although established by the federal government, the NLN will be managed and operated by Systems and Gaming Ltd.
Interestingly, the National Lottery is packed with many fascinating games. Some include Naija Mega Jackpot, 6/49, Pick 3, Instant win scratch cards and many more. The most notable, Naija Mega Jackpot, has a minimum winning potential of 45 million nairas. The game’s progressive nature means that players could win far more than that, as the amount can increase to hundreds of millions. With a minimum of 100, you can play any game of your choice and possibly walk away with millions of nairas. To participate, players must dial the USSD code *9966# or visit www.nationallotterynigeria.com
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) began televising the live draw for the lottery starting on 4 March 2023. The Naija Mega Jackpot live draw will be aired every Wednesday and Saturday night. Meanwhile, the 6/49 will be on NTA and all NLN social media pages on Tuesday and Friday nights.
The Managing Director of the lottery, Layi Onafowokan, stated that the launch of the National Lottery Nigeria would positively impact Nigerians’ economic situation and build the gaming industry. He said, “Asides from revenue for the government, the National Lottery Nigeria will also create jobs and encourage entrepreneurship through its various initiatives. A percentage of the proceeds of the ticket sales will also be allocated to various charitable causes, helping to make a positive difference.”
In addition, Layi Onafowokan said that an Integrity Committee had been established. This ensures that the National Lottery is devoid of unscrupulousness and unfairness. The Integrity Committee comprises members of the National Regulatory Commission (NLRC) and other partners. They will create a safe and responsible gaming environment for players.
The Managing Director commended NLRC for its commitment towards upholding an unbiased National lottery. “We would like to take this opportunity to commend the Director General of the NLRC, Lanre Gbajabiamila, for his dedication and commitment to the success of this project. Under his leadership, the NLRC has achieved significant milestones in promoting the growth of the lottery industry in Nigeria.”
The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr George Akume, also gave a speech after unveiling the logo during the launch ceremony in the country’s capital. According to him, the National Lottery will generate significant revenue for the government. He added that other countries’ governments use the same initiative to develop and sustain their economies.
In addition, the National Lottery will check the increasing number of foreign operators and enhance the structure of the Nigerian gaming industry.
