Globally acclaimed sports betting giant Betway has made it possible for bettors in Nigeria to place a bet without having to spend a single kobo on data. Following the launch of their Free Data offering to South Africans in June, the sports betting brand has rolled out the same service in Nigeria.

What this means is that Nigerians can now place bets without having to spend their hard-earned money on Wi-Fi connections and data, both of which remain a luxury commodity in most African countries.

Betway Nigeria’s offering comes in response to ongoing feedback from Nigerian bettors regarding cheaper data options. Many bettors have reported not being able to place bets because of the exorbitant rates they’re being charged by the country’s telecommunications providers. And the fact that data remains more expensive in Africa than anywhere else in the developing world hasn’t made things easier.

A Unifying Factor

Most Nigerians will be quick to point out the positive role played by sport in African countries. And, they know first-hand the value of supporting both local and international teams.

In this still-developing country, playing sport and supporting teams holds many more benefits than physical fitness or a way to pass time. Sport boosts local economies, can help support education, and even address anti-social behaviour.

Betway has long had a social conscience and is constantly looking for ways to make their customers lives easier. By offering a Free Data option they bring sports betting to more people and offer the opportunity to get involved without any excessive costs.

A Money Saver

Betway’s Data Free website saves more than the money spent on connection fees and mobile data. Because it’s so easy and quick to access, most people will find the service a hassle-free experience. And since there’s no need for travelling to locations offering free Wi-Fi, or even a prerequisite such as purchasing a data voucher, bettors will find themselves saving money all the way.

Three easy steps are all you’ll need to follow to sign up with Betway:

  1. Access the Betway Data Free site.
  2. Register a user account (if you don’t have one already) and claim your free bonus bet.
  3. Make your first deposit and start betting.

A World Of Betting Opportunities

Betway’s Free Data offering can be used to put money on any match or game you would typically bet on when accessing their paid-data site. Bettors can place pre-match bets, bet on eSports, place live bets, or wager on virtual games.

The only requirement is that bettors have a credit data balance to gain access to the internet and to the Free Data site from Betway’s homepage. Once they’ve gained access to the site, no more data will be deducted from their available balance.

A brand well-known for its innovative sports betting products, Betway has once again responded to their customers in just the right way. For Nigerians, data prices are an ongoing issue, but by eliminating the need for costly connectivity, this sportsbook has opened up a whole new world of wagering potential, and the chance to land a big win.

Gorilla Games Launches Android Apps https://gamblers.africa/tech-news/gorilla-games-launches-android-apps/ https://gamblers.africa/tech-news/gorilla-games-launches-android-apps/#respond Mon, 06 Jul 2020 11:48:59 +0000 http://gamblers.africa/?p=3248 Gorilla Games Africa has just launched casino and sportsbook apps for Android devices. These will provide fuller experiences for gambling fans in Rwanda.

Rwandan-based online casino game and sports betting platform Gorilla Games Africa has just announced its foray into the world of dedicated apps. The company, which was formed in 2019, has made its services available in web browsers only up to this point.

Now, following growing demand from their customers and some time dedicated to serious research and development, the platform has launched two Android apps: one for casino games and one for all sports betting requirements.

A Cheza Rwanda Games Production

Gorilla Games Africa was inaugurated in Rwanda and is currently the only licensed online casino and bookmaker in the country, but it may well expand in the future. Gambling fever considers sweeping the African continent, and Rwanda is no exception.

Players and bettors are allowed to visit offshore sites, but inbound online operators could generate much more revenue. This has led many insiders in this and other African countries to push for a greater local industry, and Gorilla Games is well-positioned to ride that wave.

A product of Cheza Rwanda Games Ltd., which is registered and authorised by Rwandan authorities, the platform was and is still available via the brands .com site using the USSD code *878# and by sending a short SMS to 7878.

Cheza Rwanda Games itself takes pride in pioneering online gambling in the country, and offers a huge range of sports, cyber sports, eSports, virtual sports, politics, reality television and other betting markets. The company’s portfolio of casino games is equally impressive.

Further Potential

In addition to branching out to more countries or adding more platforms, Cheza Rwanda Games could expand by creating additional apps for Gorilla Games. The most obvious that spring to mind are iOS casino and sportsbook apps, but apps for other devices could also be developed.

Dedicated Android apps for games like Bingo and Poker have also proven successful for many brands and may be worth exploring for Cheza Rwanda. For now, the app offers a greater selection of games and betting markets than is possible at the online site, with a more secure connection.

The apps also offer upgraded services to players and sports bettors and are fully in line with requirements to promote responsible gambling. The links to the free downloads are available via the Gorilla Games website and social media pages.

For total convenience, customers who have already registered with the platform can use their existing login details to access their account on the apps. Deposits can be made directly from Mobile Money, as always, ensuring simple, seamless banking, betting and playing.

Betway Brings Data-Free Betting to South Africa https://gamblers.africa/tech-news/betway-brings-data-free-betting-to-south-africa/ https://gamblers.africa/tech-news/betway-brings-data-free-betting-to-south-africa/#respond Mon, 15 Jun 2020 10:05:04 +0000 http://gamblers.africa/?p=2668 Betway has introduced data-free betting to South Africa. Now, experts are wondering what the impact will have on the countries gambling enthusiasts - and even the rest of the continent.

World-renowned bookmaker Betway has just announced data-free access to its South African site. This mean that sports bettors will now be able to place bets without spending a cent on internet connectivity.

The move comes after months of the country’s bettors calling for such a service, and will no doubt take the sportsbook’s revenue to even greater heights. The data free option allows bettors to place bets on pre-match games, live sports and eSports, and to play the popular Four to Score prediction game. It also facilitates new sign ups and allows for bettors to claim bonuses, and make deposits and withdrawals using limited secure banking services.

In light of this new offering experts are wondering what impact the free facilities will have on South Africa – and possibly on Africa as a whole.

The Prohibitive Cost of Data

South Africa has often proven to have some of the most expensive data in the world. In 2020 it was ranked as 148th on a list of 228 countries listed in ascending order of mobile bandwidth prices. Though still cheaper than the US, Canada, and many other nations, it’s significantly more expensive than in other countries on the African continent.

Somalia is ranked 7th on the list, while Tanzania and Kenya come in 23rd and 41st respectively. Even more significantly, SA mobile data is pricier when bought in smaller bundles. The poorer members of the population are thus spending more per unit than their more privileged counterparts.

Betway are not the first to introduce free data access, however others in SA that have extended this offer are not sports betting brands. Big brands who offer free mobile app access  include banks like FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Capitec and ABSA, along with mobile phone providers like Cell C, MTN and Vodacom.

South Africans and Gambling

Although not conventionally considered a gambling country, SA citizens love the activity. Recent estimates suggest that at least one in ten South Africans indulge in sports betting and casino games on regularly, and that gamblers’ average monthly spend exceeds R150. Experts say that if the mean income were greater (that figure is less than R20,000 per month), the amount spent on gambling would be bigger too.

In short, this is a country with a great fondness for playing, watching and betting on sports. Wagering is curtailed largely by financial constraints, suggesting that if the lower socioeconomic groups had access to more expendable income, they’d use it to gamble more. Since mobile data is so costly, one of the biggest ways of freeing up this income is to provide data-free betting opportunities – exactly what Betway has done.

Increased Player Temptation

South Africa’s unemployment rate for 2019, according to Statista was 27.32%. That’s not as high as it was in 2002, but it’s also not as low as in 2008. The figures in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic’s economic fallout are unknown but point to an even more serious unemployment problem.

With financial issues and spare time due to unemployment, the promise of quick wins is understandably tempting. Gambling addiction is already an issue in SA, and the easier access that data-free betting provides could exacerbate it.

Is the Solution More Regulations?

On the other hand, online bookmakers make huge profits and could generate some much-needed tax revenue for South Africa – something especially necessary following the coronavirus outbreak.

Introducing stricter regulations would allow for more support for problem gambling, stricter control of underage betting, and proper taxation of operators. This is not a new argument, but perhaps it is more pertinent now. The same call has been made in other African countries where bookmakers and casinos are growing in popularity, but where online operators are not properly licenced by national authorities.

However, with data already so cheap in other nations, Betway’s free offer may not have the same effect there – suggesting that the sportsbook’s decision to make data-free wagers available to South Africans was especially shrewd. What we know for certain is that this new service is likely to be a game-changer in South Africa. Time will tell of its impact on the rest of the continent.

A renowned software provider celebrated its entry into the regulated South African online sports betting market recently. SBTech announced that leading brand Bet.co.za migrated to its betting and gaming platform.

Customers of the online sportsbook in South Africa will still have access to the markets they enjoy betting on. Soccer, rugby, cricket, and novelty categories such as political elections are among those markets. However, the migration to the Bulgaria-headquartered company’s platform comes with added benefits.

Migration Brings New Things

Bet.co.za and its customers stand to benefit from the migration to SBTech’s platform in various ways. One of those benefits is a trading and risk management strategy that has been created specifically for the South African market.

Another benefit is that the sportsbook can offer products that are brand-new to the local online sports betting and gaming market. The platform is integrated with BetGames.TV, which offers an alternative to betting on sports. The TV broadcast includes live games as well as live lottery draws that customers can bet on using payment methods that are available locally.

Platform Migration Welcomed

SBTech welcomed Bet.co.za’s migration to its platform, describing the betting brand as one of the best brands in South Africa. The provider’s chief development officer, Andrew Cochrane said that the move was a major milestone for the company, and that it had taken a significant amount of collaboration to achieve it.

The sportsbook also made known its excitement about the move. Bet.co.za CEO Scott Canny said that he expected it to enhance the brand’s position among local bettors; something that would be aided by the brand’s experience with marketing in South Africa.

According to the CEO, this is not only through offering new betting products, but also by presenting bettors with an overall product that has been customised for the local market. He added that the migration ultimately will result in an offering that is totally unique in South Africa.
